An Office Visit Is Worth Your Time
Many people find that visiting the SSA office is the best way to get the help they need, and this is especially true of people who are unfamiliar with computers or the internet. The Claims Specialists are trained to answer questions about the process, and are there to help you with the most common reasons people visit the office: Social Security Disability applications, retirement benefits, and Social Security cards.
Its worth the time to go to the field office, but be sure to make an appointment, come prepared, ask questions, and find out what your next move is.
How Do I Protect Myself From Social Security Scams
Scammers use phone calls, emails, text messages, and letters to impersonate Social Security personnel and trick people into giving up personal information.
Common tactics include asking for your Social Security number and threatening to cut off Social Security benefits if personal information isnt provided.
Always remember, the Social Security Administration offers free forms and services.
If you suspect that youve been a victim of a Social Security scam or wish to report any attempts, you can call the Office of the Inspector General hotline from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays.
You can also submit a fraud report through the OIG website.

Appealing A Denied Claim
If your disability claim was denied, you are not alone. According to SSA reports, roughly 80 percent of all first-time applications are rejected due to technical mistakes or insufficient evidence.
Your notice of denial should specify why your application was denied and the steps you can take to file an appeal. The appeals process starts with asking the SSA to reconsider its decision.
It is helpful to have a knowledgeable attorney guide you through the appeals process. An attorney can help you submit additional evidence or corrected paperwork along with your appeal based on the stated reasons for the denial.
If your application is denied upon reconsideration, an attorney can request a hearing before an administrative law judge and present your strongest case for benefits.

Why Your Ssdi Claim May Be Denied
One of the top reasons you may contact a North Carolina social security disability lawyer is that your SSDI claim was denied. There are many reasons that you may be denied, but you shouldnt lose all hope. One of the most common reasons claims are denied is that your application lacked medical evidence.
To properly assess your disability, you need to have updated evidence of your injury and enough of a paper trail to support it. If you dont, it can seem that you arent struggling with your injury enough to get benefits, even if you are.
Another reason you may be denied benefits is that you have failed to cooperate with the SSA in relation to your application. Ignoring requests for more information about your injury or even not responding to a call could result in your claim being denied, even if you just didnt see the request or call.
There are several reasons why your application for social security disability benefits may have been denied, and our lawyers can help you figure it out. We can review your application to see if you missed any information or if there is another issue.

Mauldin Woman Sentenced To Sixteen Months In Prison For Theft Of Deceased Mothers Social Security Administration Benefits
For Immediate Release
ANDERSON, SOUTH CAROLINA Beth Beamer, a/k/a Beth Ballard, 48, of Mauldin, was sentenced to 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to theft of government property.
According to court documents, in October 2020, the Social Security Administration, Office of the Inspector General received information from the Greenville County Sheriffs Office that Beth Beamers mother, Rena Beamer, reportedly went missing from her home in Mauldin on an unknown date in the summer of 2017. SSA-OIG learned that despite Rena Beamer being a missing person since 2017, her SSA Title II-Retirement benefits were still being paid and deposited into her bank account, to which Beth Beamer had access.
From May 2017 to May 2020, SSA electronically deposited benefits into Rena Beamers bank account. In May 2020, the benefits were suspended for SSA to develop a new address for Rena Beamer. On December 21, 2020, SSA received a phone call from an unknown female caller who identified herself as Rena Beamer and provided Renas name, date of birth, place of birth, and bank account number. Additionally, the caller, who was later identified as Beth Beamer, updated the mailing address to an address in North Carolina. This phone call caused the SSA to restart paying benefits into the bank account of Rena Beamer. SSA-OIG reviewed bank records for Rena Beamers bank account and determined that Beth Beamer was accessing the SSA payments and spending the money on herself.
