SSI benefits are paid on the 1st day of each month. If the 1st is on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, your benefits will be deposited on the banking day before. For example, if the 1st is a Sunday, you should receive your check the Friday before . Note that your payment that comes on the 1st of the month is actually your benefit from the prior month. For example, a March check would actually be for the SSI benefits from February.
SSI checks come out early several times a year. Since January 1 is a holiday, SSI payments for January are usually paid on the last day of December that isn’t a holiday. For instance, the SSI payment for January 2023 will be deposited on Friday, December 30, 2022. SSI checks are also deposited early when the 1st of the month falls on a Saturday or Sunday, which happens in May and October of 2022.

If your disability payment is late, the SSA requests that you wait a minimum of three business days before contacting your local SSA office or calling 1-800-772-1213. If you suspect a payment was stolen, you should contact the SSA immediately.
If your first disability check does not come within 90 days of your claim approval, contact your local SSA office to learn the status of payments.

During the Clinton-era shutdown, new Social Security claims were not being processed because the agency furloughed 61,415 employees. As the shutdown wore on, the agency adjusted its plan and recalled workers to start processing new claims. Whether new claims are processed at all or with a delay due to fewer workers will depend on how many employees the SSA decides to maintain and how many they decide to furlough.
The SSAs 2013 government shutdown contingency plan stated that new and pending Social Security applications would continue to be processed as well as requests for appeals.

When To Expect A Check
After your disability claim is approved, it may take a few months to start receiving payments. If you are owed backpay, it can take even longer for it to be disbursed the time between claim approval and receiving your first disability check will be reflected in the backpay you are owed.
The Social Security Administration no longer sends paper checks through the mail for disability benefits. Instead, benefits are paid through either a direct deposit to your bank account or a deposit to a debit card.
Disability payments are made on different days of the month, depending on your birth date.

How Long Will It Take For Ssa To Pay Me
As a rule, it takes one to two months for back benefits to be paid and monthly benefits to begin in a Social Security disability case in which no SSI application was ever filed.
But these are only general rules. In some cases, it takes as long as 3 months for back benefits to be paid. When it takes more than 90 days for back benefits to be paid in a Social Security disability case, it may mean that there has been a bureaucratic mix-up somewhere in the system. In that case it will be necessary to take some sort of action to deal with the delayed benefits.
If 90 days pass from the date of the decision and I am still not paid my back benefits, is there anything that can be done to speed up payment?
It is possible that your attorney may be able to do something if you are not paid after 90 days. Be sure to telephone your attorney to explain that you havent gotten paid after about three months. It may be necessary at that point to contact the payment center.

Electronic Payments Now Required By Federal Law
The option to receive monthly benefits by check has essentially been eliminated by changes to federal laws pertaining to payments made through benefit programs such as SSDI and SSI. As of Mar. 1, 2013, all newly approved SSI beneficiaries must choose an electronic payment method. Those approved for benefits prior to that date had to switch from payments by check to an electronic method for all future payments.
