STIMULUS CHECK SSI PAYMENT JANUARY SCHEDULE 2023 & COLA INCREASE 2023

SSI benefits are paid on the 1st day of each month. If the 1st is on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, your benefits will be deposited on the banking day before. For example, if the 1st is a Sunday, you should receive your check the Friday before . Note that your payment that comes on the 1st of the month is actually your benefit from the prior month. For example, a March check would actually be for the SSI benefits from February.

SSI checks come out early several times a year. Since January 1 is a holiday, SSI payments for January are usually paid on the last day of December that isn’t a holiday. For instance, the SSI payment for January 2023 will be deposited on Friday, December 30, 2022. SSI checks are also deposited early when the 1st of the month falls on a Saturday or Sunday, which happens in May and October of 2022.

SSI recipients are now required to receive their payments through direct deposit, the Direct Express® card program, or through an Electronic Transfer Account.

Is There Anything I Can Do To Make Dealing With The Social Security Administration Easier

unnamed file 3

You shouldnt expect as many problems dealing with the Social Security Administration while receiving benefits as you had trying to get benefits in the first place. Sometimes, though, some people have problems. Here are some things you can do to try to minimize the hassle:

  • Keep all decisions, letters, and notices you receive from SSA in a safe place.
  • Read everything you get from the Social Security Administration. The booklets that come with award letters and notices are well written and informative.
  • When reading the booklets you receive from the Social Security Administration, pay special attention to the kind of information you are required to report to the Social Security Administration. Report promptly and in writing and keep a copy with your Social Security papers.
  • Dont necessarily believe everything they tell you at the Social Security Administration 800 number. If you have an important issue to take up with the Social Security Administration, sometimes it is better to go to your local Social Security Office.

What Happens To My Social Security Disability Application In A Government Shutdown

During the Clinton-era shutdown, new Social Security claims were not being processed because the agency furloughed 61,415 employees. As the shutdown wore on, the agency adjusted its plan and recalled workers to start processing new claims. Whether new claims are processed at all or with a delay due to fewer workers will depend on how many employees the SSA decides to maintain and how many they decide to furlough.

The SSAs 2013 government shutdown contingency plan stated that new and pending Social Security applications would continue to be processed as well as requests for appeals.

However, because these functions are carried out by the state Disability Determination Offices, each state will decide whether to continue these operations or stop them.

The most likely scenario is that applications will be processed but with some delay.

The delay will be dependent on how many employees are retained and how long the shutdown lasts.

Direct deposit early availability depends on timing of payors payment instructions, and fraud prevention restrictions may also apply. As such, the availability or timing of early direct deposit may vary from pay period to pay period. If you havent received a direct deposit that you are expecting, its because we havent received the payment instructions from your employer or benefits provider.

If you are concerned about the status of your direct deposit, make sure the name and Social Security number on file with your employer matches whats on your GO2bank account exactly. GO2bank will not be able to deposit your payment if this information doesnt match exactly.

If you still need help with a payroll direct deposit, then follow these steps:

  • Contact your employer to verify that the direct deposit was sent. If so, ask them for the TRACE # of your direct deposit transaction.
  • Once you have the TRACE #, call GO2bank Customer Support at 459-1334 and GO2bank will investigate the transaction.
  • NOTE: If you recently reported your card lost or stolen, please be sure to tell the GO2bank Customer Support Specialist.

If you enrolled in direct deposit for federal benefits, you should contact the agency that administers your benefit.

    Checking Your Claims Status

The SSA instructs recipients to wait at least three business days after the scheduled post date of the payment before contacting your local SSA office. If your benefits are not in your account after 72 hours from their scheduled deposit date you should call 1-800-772-1213 , Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for inquiries.

How Long Will It Take For Ssa To Pay Me

As a rule, it takes one to two months for back benefits to be paid and monthly benefits to begin in a Social Security disability case in which no SSI application was ever filed.

But these are only general rules. In some cases, it takes as long as 3 months for back benefits to be paid. When it takes more than 90 days for back benefits to be paid in a Social Security disability case, it may mean that there has been a bureaucratic mix-up somewhere in the system. In that case it will be necessary to take some sort of action to deal with the delayed benefits.

If 90 days pass from the date of the decision and I am still not paid my back benefits, is there anything that can be done to speed up payment?

It is possible that your attorney may be able to do something if you are not paid after 90 days. Be sure to telephone your attorney to explain that you havent gotten paid after about three months. It may be necessary at that point to contact the payment center.

Electronic Payments Now Required By Federal Law

The option to receive monthly benefits by check has essentially been eliminated by changes to federal laws pertaining to payments made through benefit programs such as SSDI and SSI. As of Mar. 1, 2013, all newly approved SSI beneficiaries must choose an electronic payment method. Those approved for benefits prior to that date had to switch from payments by check to an electronic method for all future payments.

There are currently only two available payment methods in use by the Social Security Administration. Social Security disability benefits through the SSI program may be direct deposited to your account at a bank. The other method is to have them electronically added to a Direct Express debit card, which is the debit card approved for use by the Social Security Administration.

    Reasons A Check Is Late

There are a few things that could cause a late disability payment.

    • If you have not updated the SSA regarding a bank account change or change of address, your payment could be delayed.
    • The bank account used by the SSA to pay your disability benefits may have changed, delaying your payment.
    • If the SSA office in charge of your disability payments is experiencing slow processing time, your payment may be delayed.
